It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our friend and colleague from STO and Star Trek Deep Space 9, the late Aron Eisenberg.
ACTOR Aron Eisenberg best known for playing 'Nog' in the hit TV show 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' has died aged 50.
His death was announced to fans of the 1990s sci-fi spin-off in a Facebook post by his wife Malissa Longo.
“It is with extreme regret and sadness to announce that my love and best friend, Aron Eisenberg, passed away earlier today,” she wrote.
“He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth.”
The couple had been married since December 2018 when they eloped together.
“While our marriage, on paper, was a short one,” she writes, “our hearts had been married for far longer. I will be forever thankful for the time we had to love each other.”
No cause of death is mentioned in the post, however Eisenberg had high-profile health struggles.
He was reportedly taken to hospital shortly just before his death in a "critical condition".
In an article on the StarTrek.com website from 2015, he talked of the second kidney transplant he was about to undergo.
He told the site he was born with just one defective kidney and went on dialysis at 14 before undergoing his first transplant surgery at 17.
Longo set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise $10,000 for further surgery in 2015 and they pulled in $13,995 from 330 donors.
But the new kidney failed forcing him to resume dialysis until his second transplant in December of that year.
“I’m so blessed and fortunate,” he said of the news about finding a kidney donor that year. “It’s absolutely incredible.”
Eisenberg’s character was a mischievous Ferengi with a large head and distinctive ears.
He appeared in more than 40 episodes of the series during its seven-season run.
Earlier in his career, he starred in the TV series 'Straight Up', the movie 'Amityville: The Evil Escapes' as well as the films 'The Horror Show', 'Playroom' and 'Beverly Hills Brats'. Original Article from the UK Newspaper the Sun
